Burnham-On-Sea pupils’ Fairtrade coffee morning raises charity funds

-

Children from a Burnham-On-Sea school raised cash for charity by holding a unique Fairtrade coffee morning in the town on Wednesday (March 9th).

The children of St Andrew’s School made and served coffee to visitors at St Andrew’s Church to promote the idea of ‘Fairtrade’, which they have been studying as part of their lessons.

Vicar Graham Witts said the event was held as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, with the children hosting a cafe, and offering information about trade between the First and Third World markets.

The successful event raised £60 for the Traidcraft charity to help those involved in Fairtrade overseas. Fairtrade promotes fairness in trading between the first and third world and allows third world farmers to keep a larger percentage of the price of their goods rather than it becoming a supermarket profit.
