Residents in Burnham-On-Sea’s Oxford Street have this week called for safety improvements after SEVEN crashes in the space of a decade.
Alison Haywood’s wall and fence were damaged during Monday’s crash when a car slammed into a block of flats, closing the road.
She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is a dangerous stretch of road given the large amount of accidents we’ve seen here – seven in ten years.”
“Something needs to be done to improve safety before someone is hurt. I’d like to see the speed limit reduced from 30mph to 15 or 20mph and metal safety bars introduced along the pavements to keep pedestrians safe.”
“The surface of the road also needs to be looked at by the council too – it seems to be slippery.”
Her comments come after we reported here that a yellow Polo had been left embedded in the wall of Crown Gardens flats in Oxford Street at 1.15am on Monday, as pictured below, forcing several shocked residents to be evacuated.
