Burnham MP joins calls for longer opening hours for seafront toilets

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s MP has this week called for public toilets on the town’s seafront to be open longer during the tourist season.

Tessa Munt says she fully supports Burnham and Highbridge Town Council’s recent request to Sedgemoor District Council to keep the loos open for longer each day.

“The public conveniences on the South Esplanade close at 5.30pm which both I and the town councillors feel is far too early during the summer,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“In the summer during the evenings, Burnham beach is often buzzing with tourists and I do not feel it is unreasonable for the only toilets to be open a little later.”

“I have written to Sedgemoor about this. Burnham’s economy is based on tourism and Sedgemoor should be doing everything to ensure it is supported – I hope common sense will prevail.”

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported on the issue here in June when town councillors expressed their concerns about the opening times.
