Controversial plans to extend the frontage of a group of shops on Burnham’s seafront have this week been turned down by planners.
They strongly objected to the scheme submitted by the building’s owner, Mr J Corrigan, to extend the frontage at No.2 The Esplanade, pictured here.
Planners said the proposals would mean the front of the property would exceed the current building line.
A spokeswoman for Sedgemoor District Council told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The proposals would involve the construction of an extension in advance of the building line of adjacent properties in a prominent location along The Esplanade.”
“This would have an adverse impact on the appearance of The Esplanade in general and the Old Custom’s House in particular and would form a discordant feature in the street scene to the detriment of the character of the area and would be contrary to policy in the Sedgemoor District Local Plan.”
