ITV West presenter to switch on Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas lights

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s High Street will glow a little brighter this Christmas with the news that 19 new sets of festive lights are to be switched on during November.

A whole afternoon of activities will be held in the run-up to the big switch-on, it was announced on Tuesday evening (October 17th) by Burnham’s Chamber of Trade.

From 2pm on Saturday November 25th, there will be a Christmas Market along the High Street – with music from a live concert band, plus carols sung by local theatrical group Curtain Call.

Then ITV West News presenter Peter Rowell (pictured below) will switch on the new lights at 4pm. Orchard FM’s Black Thunders will also be in town to mark the occasion.

The Chamber of Trade’s Alex Turco told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There will be 19 new lighting column-mounted lights for the High Street, together with eight replacements to worn out wall-mounted lights.”

ITV West News presenter Peter Rowell“The lights will be all white to compliment the existing wall-mounted coloured lights and will be mounted on the pavement side of all the lighting columns, as high up the lamps as possible.”

The photo above shows how the new Christmas lights may look along Burnham’s High Street.

The project has been largely funded by Sedgemoor District Council with additional contributions from the Town Council and Chamber of Trade, as we previously reported.

“The total cost of the proposed new lights is around £6,000, with wiring in of the new lights amounting to £4,500, and erection of the existing lights expected to be £2,000. If the budget allows, a new Seasons Greetings sign will also be purchased,” added Alex.

It was also announced on Tuesday that the festive lights that were previously strung across the street would no longer be used due to changes in safety regulations.
