Man dies in two-car accident near Burnham-On-Sea

-

A man has died after being injured in a horrific two car accident near Burnham-On-Sea.

Police and fire crews from Burnham were called to the crash on the B3151 between Wedmore and Cheddar at 7pm on Friday night (October 20th).

Two motorists were trapped in the wreckage of the cars – a Peugeot 306 car and a Mitsubishi Carisma – and Burnham firefighters helped to release them using hydraulic equipment and a power saw. A fire in one of the vehicles was also extinguished using a hose reel jet.

However, police said on Monday (October 23rd) that Simon Amesbury, 34, of Wedmore, who was driving the Carisma, was treated at the scene by paramedics but died a short time later at Weston General Hospital.

The driver of the Peugeot, an 18-year-old man, also suffered extensive injuries and currently remains in a serious, but stable condition at Weston General Hospital.

The 18-year-old front seat passenger from the Peugeot also remains in Weston General, although neither man is in a life threatening condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have been travelling on the B3151 at the time to come forward. You can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
