Bumper start to the Easter holiday for traders in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Easter tourism season has got off to a busy start with many businesses in the town reporting bumper trade despite the threat of poor weather this weekend.

Burnham’s town centre was busy on Good Friday with large numbers of visitors and shoppers in the High Street as the start of the Easter holidays coincided with the town’s farmers market, pictured above.

Public car parks in the town, including the one in Pier Street, right, were busier than normal as the good weather encouraged visitors into the town.

Ann Fudge at the Bay View Cafe told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Friday was very busy. It seems the threat of bad weather this weekend helped to boost trade as people got out to enjoy the good weather while it lasted.”

Louise Parkin at Burnham Pavilion agreed, adding: “It was a great start to the Easter holiday – we had a busy day of ice cream and food sales thanks to the super weather.” Kathy Jones at the Toy Cupboard in Pier Street also added that it had been “a very busy start to the weekend.”

Burnham Chamber of Trade, which launched its Easter shop windows competition on Friday, added: “It was great to see the town so busy during an important trading period as Burnham’s tourist season gets underway. Accommodation providers are telling us they are busy too, with healthy advance bookings.”
