Higher car parking charges came into effect across Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge on Tuesday (January 4th) at the same time as a nationwide VAT increase.
As first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com last weekend, Sedgemoor District Council has hiked up the charges at its car parks and street parking bays, including at Burnham’s Pier Street Car Park, pictured here.
The cost of car parking for four hours has risen by 10p, while all-day costs have risen by 20p. Short-stay parking for one or two hours is unchanged.
The costs for boat trailers and tow vehicles has also risen by 10p for up to three hours and 20p for all day.
Tom Dougall, Transport Policy Officer at cash-strapped Sedgemoor District Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The charges have been increased to account for the increase in VAT to 20%.”
