Bright sunshine brought crowds of spectators to Burnham-On-Sea’s traditional August Bank Holiday Monday summer fete.
The annual fete saw throngs of families enjoying the good weather in the town’s Manor Gardens, raising over £5,000 for local good causes.
This year’s event was jointly overseen by the Friends of Burnham Hospital and Burnham Lions with help from a team of volunteers.
It was one of the biggest fetes ever seen in Burnham with attractions including face painting, inflatables, raffles, mini-golf, a coconut stall, cakes, badgemaking, mini train rides, a tombola and a human fruit machine.
Organiser Tony Deahl told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a real pleasure to work this year with the Lions and to see so many families enjoying fun in the sunshine. It was a truly community event. The fete will have raised well in excess of £5000 and thanks must go to all those who worked so hard to make it such a resounding success. Particular thanks go to the patients from local doctor’s surgeries who donated over 200 bottles enabling the bottle stall alone to raise over £800.”
Arena attractions included the Monarchs Acrobats, a kung fu demonstration and a magic show. BIARS tourism manager Ian Jefferies is shown bravely volunteering himself on the throw-a-sponge display!
All profits from the fete went to make life better for patients and staff of Burnham Hospital and the charities supported by Burnham Lions. Many charities, including BARB, Macmillan Cancer Support, the RNLI and Prostate Cancer Awareness were present, were running displays and stalls.
