Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser prepares for once-in-a lifetime Indian trek

-

Mike Barsby will trek with fellow participants for five days in Ladakh India amidst the Himalayas to raise money for disability charity Scope.

Mike says: “My previous trek for SCOPE to Guatemala was challenging but this one will be more arduous due to the constant high altitude. Each day will consist of up to eight hours on foot over rough terrain that will be made easier by the spectacular scenery.”

“At night we will be ‘under canvas’ and while the daytime temperatures will be quite high, the night temperatures normally drop below freezing. On completing the journey we will be taking time to relax with a visit to the Taj Mahal before flying home.”

“I am putting much of my spare time over the coming months into fundraising and physical training to prepare me for the challenge. Apart from re-joining the gym, I will be walking or cycling the six miles to the Animal Farm Adventure Park in Berrow where I work as Manager.”

“My next fundraising event is a 60s disco and music quiz on the 25th November at the Ritz Club in Burnham. It promises to be a great night – so dig out your loon pants and Kaftans and get a ticket!”

Mike needs to raise a minimum sponsorship of £2,800 although his personal target is £4,000. The money raised will go towards Scope’s vital work with people with cerebral palsy and the charity’s ongoing ‘Time To Get Equal’ campaign, which fights for equality and human rights for disabled people.
