Burnham’s Mayor Martin Cox, Deputy Mayor Pauline Pollard and Councillor Paul Young have visited the town’s lifeboat station to learn more about the service and its volunteer crew.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Ricky Holmes and other crew were delighted to have the opportunity to show them around the station and answer their questions.
The Mayor is actually Ricky’s predecessor in the role, so he was interested to see how the station has changed since he was last in charge.
The Deputy Mayor said she knew that the RNLI was a charity but was surprised to hear that it is funded entirely by contributions.
Helm and Lifeboat Training Coordinator Lyndon Baker and Deputy Launch Authority Dave Parsons went on to explain to the visitors about how the RNLI work with other emergency services.
The group were interested to hear about the differences in the two boats at the station and how the launch vehicles are used.
Cllr Cox said: “I am very impressed with the way the station is kept and all the information available. I wish to give them all the support we can to enable them to carry out the good work they are doing.”
