Plans for 17 new homes next to Burnham’s Tesco store ‘progressing’

-

Proposals to build 17 new homes on land next to Tesco’s Burnham-On-Sea store are edging closer with discussions underway with the district council regarding the financial terms of the project.

The supermarket giant was initially granted approval in 2009 to proceed with the construction of the homes to the west of the store in Ben Travers Way.

However, the district council placed a number of conditions on Tesco, including requiring an ‘S106’ agreement to be in place for secure affordable housing, providing additional public open space, landscaping and ‘RLT3’ contributions for public leisure facilities.

A report to councillors on Sedgemoor District Council’s Development Control Committee this week says negotiations between the council and Tesco are ongoing.

It states: “Work on addressing the outstanding issues was reinvigorated in January 2013. The S106 agreement has been held up as a result of outstanding issues relating to the foot path link, a new badger sett and the extent of the site boundary line.”

“Concerns over maintenance liabilities and the need for consistency between the application boundary and the S106 plan have now been addressed and an amended draft has been sent back to the applicant’s solicitors. All that remains is the outstanding figure for a bond related to relocation of the pedestrian/cycle way.”
