A colouful painting by a Highbridge artist has been hung in Prince George’s nursery after being accepted by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Tazia Fawley, 43, who has Down’s Syndrome, says the news comes as a “huge honour”.
It all came about due to Tazia’s involvement with Heart and Sold, a charity supporting and showcasing artists with the condition.
Its director Suzie Moffat sent an image of Tazia’s painting ‘Rupert Flies Over The Suspension Bridge’ to William and Kate in hope that they might like and accept the original as a gift for the baby’s nursery.
A formal letter arrived soon afterwards welcoming the gift and the painting has recently been sent on request to the Royal household.
Tazia painted the artwork five years ago on wooden board. It is large, measuring 36 x 12 inches and is painted with acrylic paint.
She lives with her mother, sculptor Gylda Thomas, and paints in her separate studio.
Gylda told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Taz is really pleased – it’s a great honour. The painting is so colourful and vibrant because the balloons come in all shapes and sizes with Rupert Bear in the middle. It is perfect for a children’s nursery.”
She added: “The letter from the Royal couple is very formally written and in the final few words it says the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would like to send their best wishes to Taz, which is so touching.”
Taz will have a three-week exhibition of her work running in Burnham’s Princess Theatre during October featuring her seascapes and prints.
