Seventeen year-old Emma Nicholson was selected as Burnham-On-Sea’s new Carnival Queen on Friday night (September 6th).

At a packed ceremony in Burnham’s Holiday Village, the teenager was chosen by a panel of judges to lead this year’s carnival parade following a special selection evening.

The judges also picked this year’s Princesses, Pheobe Stargatt, 16, and Amber Hayward, 7.

Emma said was “excited and honoured” to have been picked for the role.

During the evening, each of the nominees was asked to answer questions about their hobbies and interests and show an awareness of the community, plus a knowledge and understanding of the district.

The pageant included entertainment from the Lucy Gunter Dance School and a Katy Perry tribute.

The queen’s appointment is the first event in the run-up to this year’s Highbridge and Burnham Carnival, which will be held on Monday November 4th.

One of the organisers, Linda Bullimore, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Carnival Queen is chosen as an ambassador for the Carnival as well as the precincts of Highbridge and Burnham.”

“It is hoped that the Carnival Queen will assist with community cohesion projects in the area over the year.”
