Residents argue against Burnham Bowling Club’s late night opening plan

-

A controversial application to extend opening times until 2am at Burnham-On-Sea Bowling Club is set to be decided by Sedgemoor District Council’s Licensing and Registration Committee this week.

The town’s bowling club, in St Andrew’s Road, wants to extend its opening hours from 11.30pm to 2am on 24 nights a year in order to allow music and entertainment.

It also wants to alter the current restrictions on guests who can use the club; and increase the number of occasions the club can be hired out.

A letter of objection has been sent to the licensing committee by nearby residents. The premises are surrounded by residential properties on three sides, with offices to the rear.

In the letter, residents say the application should be turned down on the grounds of ‘Prevention of Public Nuisance’.

.The Bowling Club’s late night plans in full:

Burnham-On-Sea Bowling Club’s licence application is to:

To allow guests of members to use all the facilities of the club, and to purchase alcohol.

To be allowed to hire out the club to non-members on not more than 24 occasions per calendar year.

To provide indoor sporting events from 9am to 11.30pm every day, plus up to 2am on the permitted late nights for live music, recorded music and dance.

To allow the supply of alcohol to 2am on the permitted late nights.

To increase the occasions when the club premises may have late night
openings from 10 to 24 occasions per calendar year.

The club proposes to ensure that only members, guests of members and authorised visitors are allowed on the premises.
