Highbridge Social Club bounces back from brink of closure

-

Highbridge Social Club has bounced back from the brink of closure with growing membership numbers and takings.

The club in Church Street was under a threat of closure for several months last year, but its committee have worked hard to restore people’s faith in what is an important community facility.

Now, membership numbers are up significantly on 2009 and takings have steadily grown too, with December up 20 per cent on the previous year.

Secretary Ryan Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com that in the currently economic climate the club is incredibly pleased with its progress.

“The Committee of 2010 had two main priorities: putting the club back on a firm financial footing and restoring people’s confidence in this important community facility,” he said.

“Looking back over the last year, we have come a long way and that is down to the work of the committee, staff and the ongoing support of its members.”

James Kempson, the recently appointed bar manager, has also given the bars a much-needed facelift.

He added: “We are now focusing on increasing events with a variety things happening on a weekly basis, it is a really exciting time here, please come and have a look at what we can offer.”
