Urgent repairs were carried out to the navigation beacon at the end of Burnham-On-Sea’s slipway on Monday (December 18th) after a bolt came lose and left the structure in a precarious condition.
Burnham’s Harbour Master, Captain Chris Spencer, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “One of the bolts had dropped out, possibly during the recent storms, leaving it in a potentially dangerous condition.”
Workmen used a cherry picker vehicle to reach the top of the structure, as pictured here, and then secured the pole with guide ropes before adding several new bolts and brackets.
Slipway users were asked to stay clear of the lower 50 metres of the jetty during the work, which took four hours and was completed by mid-afternoon.
