Burnham-On-Sea pubs prepare for introduction of new smoking laws

-

Pubs across Burnham-On-Sea are getting ready for the introduction of next summer’s nationwide smoking ban.

Colin Spence of Chaplins in Burnham-On-SeaChaplins on The Esplanade has spent more than £5,000 on building a new extension to its premises in recent weeks – and other pubs are following suit.

Colin Spence, owner of Chaplins, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We wanted an area where customers could enjoy a drink and a smoke whilst watching the sea.”

A 12mm-thick glass screen is also to be introduced around the decking, along with a canopy, to allow the area to be used all year round, whatever the weather.

Chaplins is not the only Burnham pub planning ahead for next July’s smoking ban. The Victoria is to build a smoking area at the front of its premises, while The Reed’s Arms has just completed a series of changes to cater for smokers as well. The Railway is planning to adapt its outside seating area for smokers.
