Mayor launches Burnham-On-Sea’s Somerset Arts Weeks displays

Artists across the Burnham-On-Sea area will be showcasing their work during the 2013 Somerset Arts Weeks festival over the next fortnight.

Hundreds of paintings, ceramics, drawings, textiles and sculptures will be among the items on show across Burnham between September 21st and October 6th.

Somerset Art Weeks 2013 is a celebration of the work of around 400 artists in over scores of venues across the county.

Somerset Skills and Learning held a launch party for its artists and supporters on Tuesday attended by Burnham’s Mayor Cllr Martin Cox, as pictured above. The theme of its exhibition is Somerset’s beauty with a series of drawings and paintings that capture the spirit of the county. It is open during the festival on Tuesday-Thursday 10am-9pm, Monday-Friday 10am-3pm and Sep 29th 10am-3pm.

Burnham’s Cora Stock and Sue Hammond-Lovatt (pictured above) plus Margaret Micklewright will be displaying their work from 10am-5pm each day at Brent View at 112 Berrow Road where a super collection of ceramics, paintings, prints and drawings will be on show.

Linda Gee, Anita Pegler, George Foweraker and Janet Middleton will be displaying textiles, watercolours, wood designs and clothing at the Garden Studio at 212 Burnham Road, open daily from 11am-6pm.

Timothy Smith, Jaya Masters, Sarah Philpptt and Louise Pendry will be showing their watercolours, oils, pastels and ink paintings of local scenes plus flora and fauna at 47 Rosewood Avenue. It will be open Tuesday to Saturday 11am-6pm, and Sundays 2-6pm.

The Chairman of Somerset Arts Weeks, Richard Pomeroy, said: “This year is open studios – a chance for visitors to see the heart of Somerset’s creativity. There is a huge variety of work out there to see and an equal variety of people and places to visit – it’s a chance for you to explore!”
