Burnham-On-Sea Bowling Club’s late night opening plan withdrawn

-

Controversial plans to extend the closing time at Burnham-On-Sea Bowling Club until 2am have been withdrawn.

Sedgemoor District Council’s Licensing and Registration Committee had been due to decide last week whether the town’s bowling club, in St Andrew’s Road, could extend its closing time from 11.30pm to 2am on 24 nights a year in order to allow the introduction of late night music and entertainment.

But a letter of objection had been sent to the licensing committee by nearby residents who claimed the application should be turned down on the grounds of ‘prevention of public nuisance’.

At the eleventh hour, though, the application was withdrawn by the club after the Licensing Officer examining the request said the application had been “non-compliant.”

“The advertisement placed on display in respect of the variations to the current license did not show the correct information,” spokesman Malcolm Brooks told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Our Licensing Officer has spoken to representatives of the Bowling Club who have withdrawn their application. They will resubmit an amended application and undertake further public consultation.”
