Work to remove rocks and debris from the town’s former Marine Lake swimming pool on Burnham-On-Sea’s beach came to a brief halt this week when the town’s notorious soft sand and mud caught out the workmen.
A truck driven onto the beach to remove the material near Burnham jetty became stranded when its wheels sank into the mud, as pictured here.
“The truck was stuck for over half an hour and when a digger was unsuccessfully used to dig it out, a chain was attached to it to pull it free,” an eyewitness told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Fortunately the tide was going out at the time or there’d have been a race against the clock.”
The team are undertaking the clearance work on behalf of Sedgemoor District Council after safety concerns were raised last month regarding the amount of debris that has re-emerged on the beach over the summer months.
