Boarded-up building site in Highbridge is branded a ‘disgrace’

-

Town councillors in Highbridge have this week called for more to be done to improve the appearance of a boarded-up building site in the town centre.

Cllr Bill Hancock told a council meeting that the former Canal House development site next to the Market Street roundabout is a “disgrace”.

“More needs to be done to encourage the developer and Sedgemoor District Council to tidy up this site,” he said.

He later added that he would like to see building work start as quickly as possible.

Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun said: “The matter has been rectified as new screening boards have recently gone up. We cannot force someone to develop their site.”

Canal House was previously occupied by a furniture shop which was demolished in 2012. It has been boarded up ever since.

Outline planning permission for a development of 14 flats at the site was given in 2010, as we reported here.
