Burnham-On-Sea High Street pub’s expansion plan set to be discussed

-

Plans by a Burnham-On-Sea pub to revamp its premises are set to be considered by town councillors.

The plans for a new decking area outside the pub in the High Street and various internal alterations will go before the town’s planning committee on Tuesday (January 16th).

The proposals include the construction of an area of decking with an awning to the west elevation, the replacement of two windows with bi-folding doors, and internal chnages.

If the plan is approved, the pub’s catering kitchen would move to the first floor, enabling its carvery to be located at ground floor level and more accessible toilet facilities to be introduced.

The plans for decking along the High Street pavements in front of the pub – which would be used by smokers after a UK-wide ban on smoking in pubs comes into force in July – are likely to be particularly scrutinised.

The pub’s application states: “The High Street displays an ever-changing street scene within which the Somerset & Dorset forms an integral part. The facade treatment as proposed adds to the vibrance of the street, respects the original character of the building and incorporates a ramped access solution.”
