Burnham-On-Sea RNLI and BARB Search & Rescue are set to brighten up this summer’s annual emergency services day with a fundraising Colour Run.
The two organisations are working together to launch the new event at this year’s ‘Escape Day’ on Sunday 7th August with the added help of Burnham Coastguards and Victoria Taylor from Burnham Bootcamp.
The ‘Rescue Rainbow Run’ will take place during the seafront event from 1-4pm when up to 600 participants will walk, jog or skip the 3.5km from Burnham jetty to the town’s iconic lighthouse and back whilst experiencing an explosion of rainbow coloured powder paint along the way!
Participants will receive a medal and a bottle of water upon completion of the run, with photo opportunities available at the finish line.
Entry fees are being offered at a reduced rate throughout May: £10 per adult and £6 per child (over 5), increasing to £12 per adult from 1st June. Entry forms can be collected from Burnham RNLI’s shop, the ‘Hair of The Dog’ barbers or The Coffee Corner Co.
Alternatively, the forms can be emailed via events-2016@outlook.com. Forms and full payment must be returned to the RNLI shop in Burnham High Street.
The proceeds will be split between the two organising groups – Burnham-On-Sea RNLI and BARB Search & Rescue to fund the work of each charity.
Event organisers are Lesley-Ruth Hart and Dan Fear at the RNLI, and Mike Lowe and Roger Flower at BARB.
Co-organiser Lesley-Ruth Hart said: “The RNLI and BARB wanted to join forces organising an event that would bring the local community together while getting participants involved in something really fun, and all for two worthwhile local charities. With the usual Stert Swim being cancelled, Escape Day provides the perfect setting for the Rainbow Run.”
“We are very excited about it and are really pleased that people are getting behind it. It is set to be a brilliant event for Burnham-On-Sea and one we hope will continue for years to come.”
