Hundreds of visitors turned out to an event dedicated to the humble spud at Garden World in Somerset over the weekend (January 20th and 21st).
More than a hundred potato varieties, one of the biggest collections in the south west, went on show alongside weird and wonderful spud models created by children from all over the county.
During the Potato Weekend, visitors were invited to vote for their favourite models and can still do so, as the voting does not close until Friday January 26th.
Managing Director, Peter Burks, said: “Visitors were able to get free information on selecting, planting, caring and harvesting the crop along with suggestions for eating potatoes.”
“We also ran our annual potato modelling competition and had lots of fantastic entries. The models were on display in-store during the weekend and customers were asked to vote for the best ones.”
The next event at Garden World will be a talk and book signing session from BBC gardener and orchid expert, Tom Hart Dyke on Friday March 9th. He will be in-store from 1pm-5pm to chat to visitors. Tom will host a talk on the ‘World Map of Plants’ followed by a book signing. Tickets for the talk cost £8 and will be available from the garden centre from February 1st.
