Burnham-On-Sea artist begins work on new visitor maps

-

Burnham-On-Sea artist Judith Champion has begun work on designing a set of new visitor signs displaying maps of the town.

Burnham’s regeneration partnership committee has just given the go-ahead for six new ‘you are here’ signs to be introduced in Burnham – each of which will display a street map illustrated with images of key Burnham landmarks.

Burnham-On-Sea artist Judith ChampionCommittee chairman Mike Murphy told Burnham-On-Sea.com the signs would be sited at the town’s Oxford Street car park, Pier Street car park, library, tourist information centre, High Street and outside the pavilion.

“The new signs are scheduled to be in place by May to help visitors find their way around the town in time for the start of the tourist season,” he said.

Judith, a talented local artist, is well known for her illustrations of Burnham-On-Sea following her work with illustrating the town’s shopping guide last year.

She has exhibited locally from her Stoddens Lane home and has completed a varied range of design commissions – including a five-metre-wide Millennium Altar kneeler and a mural for a swimming pool.

Meawhile, the regeneration partnership is also proceeding on a new historical information panel for Highbridge, similar to the ones introduced along Burnham seafront in 2006. The new double-sided panel will be sited at Alpha House in the centre of Highbridge. An early draft of the sign is being reviewed and the finished item should be installed by the early summer.
