Somerset County Council has stepped in to make sure scores of bus routes in the Burnham-On-Sea area are covered after one of its key operators suddenly ceased operating this week.
The council is arranging for other bus companies to take over the routes provided by Webber Bus Ltd which informed the Council yesterday that it would be ceasing to operate from this morning (Friday, 13th May) due to financial difficulties.
Among the local services affcted are the 67 service between Wells and Burnham-On-Sea where First is providing a replacement service.
Users of the 75 service for Weston / Burnham / Bridgwater are being advised to use First routes 20/21/21A instead and additional capacity is being provided where necessary.
And users of the 76 service whicg runs between Weston and Burnham are being recommended to use First service 20 instead.
“We put our contingency plans into action immediately and are doing everything we can to keep disruption to an absolute minimum in what is a very difficult situation,” said Cllr David Fothergill, Cabinet member for Highways.
“Webberbus is by some distance the second largest operator in the county and organising replacement services at very short notice is a significant task.”
“Thanks to the hard work of staff and flexibility of other providers, we’re getting there.”
