Somerset Schools Energy Action – Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow schools to receive ‘green’ energy advice

-

Schools from Burnham-On-Sea and Berrow will be taking part in a new Somerset County Council campaign called ‘Somerset Schools Energy Action’ to help cut energy waste and improve energy efficiency in schools across the county.

Representatives from Burnham-On-Sea Infants School (pictured) and Berrow Primary School will join staff from over 45 other schools in attending a seminar on energy efficiency in Bridgwater on 6th February.

At the seminars, training and information will be given on how to obtain Government funding for renewable energy initiatives, such as solar or wind power, highlighting areas for potential energy cost savings.

Ways to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel costs through a whole-school approach to energy awareness will be explored, and the Somerset Waste Action Partnership (SWAP) will demonstrate how the subjects of energy efficiency, climate change and recycling can be woven into the curriculum.

Cllr Paul Buchanan, Somerset County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: “This campaign will help every school in Somerset save money while they save energy.”

“There are 283 schools in the county, and making every school as energy efficient as possible will have a big impact on the work that Somerset County Council is doing to reduce carbon emissions in Somerset.”
