Highbridge pupils scoop ‘best team’ award at technology event

-

Strong team working paid off for this group of students from Highbridge’s King Alfred School after they won a top award at a regional technology event.

Year 9 pupils Matt Bolitho, Ismail Abdelrahim, Becky Jones, Alice Dymond and Hannah Dowell won the ‘Best Team’ award at the South West Regional Go4 SET Celebration Day held in Keynsham.

The event was run by Go For Science Engineering and Technology (Go4 SET), a national organisation set up by the Government and Engineering Council

“The pupils worked for ten weeks on a project involving researching, designing and modelling an eco-friendly classroom, then writing a report on their activities. The school team was mentored and supported throughout by Mr Ray Stewart, MD of Manuflex, based in Highbridge,” school teacher Simon Aylward told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The final part of the assessment was to give a presentation of their work to a
panel of judges from industry and education. The judges praised the students for
their teamwork, organisation, dilligence and mature approach to the work and
presentation. The judges also noted the confidence of the students as they answered questions on their project and their ability to support each other.”

“The success was well deserved and congratulations go to Hannah, Alice, Becky, Ismail and Matt.”
