A Burnham-On-Sea athlete is set to represent Great Britain at the Triathlon World Championships next year after winning the British Championships on Sunday (May 15th).
Martin Rogers, who is Burnham Swim & Sports Academy General Manager, took part in the 2016 British Triathlon Sprint Distance Triathlon Champs at Emberton Country Park, Olney, Bucks where he won his age category.
As winner of the event, Martin gained automatic selection to represent Great Britain at the 2017 ITU Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships.
Martin, who is already taking part in the European Championships in Portugal next week, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I completed a 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run and was really pleased to have won overall by just under two minutes in front of the next finsher. You never know until the end of the event if you’ve done well when everyone’s scores have been calculated.”
Burnham Swim & Sports Academy’s Sara Cox Conklin told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are extremely proud of Martin – he’s our main coach for our tri-academy so he’s not just teaching our members but doing it very successfully himself!”
“We are really pleased for him – it’s a great accomplishment to reach the ITU Sprint Distance Triathlon World Championships for Team GB.”
There was further good news when Martin’s daughter, Tabby, also won a bronze medal in her age category.
