In photos: Awards ceremony held for Highbridge In Bloom winners

Over 100 people filled Highbridge Community Hall on Saturday night (October 12th) for the town’s annual Highbridge In Bloom awards ceremony.

Certificates and trophies were handed out by Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Cllr Martin Cox and Sedgemoor District Council’s Vice Chairman, Cllr Ian Dyer.

Highbridge In Bloom’s organisers Joyce Curtis and Pam Lyes thanked all those who entered this year’s competition, including scores of youngsters in the art categories.

The Mayor told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Highbridge In Bloom is much more than a flower competition – it binds the community together and improves the look of the town. The standard this year was higher than ever and I thank all those who took part.”

Over a dozen residents received Highbridge In Bloom awards for displays in their gardens. The winners were Hanging baskets: 1st Colin Selway, 2nd Marlene Hand, 3rd Maisie Hand; Small front garden: 1st Maisie Hand, 2nd D Slack, 3rd M Lucas & S Coggins; Large front garden: 1st Shirley Adams, 2nd T Searle; Commercial winners: 1st Salt Express, 2nd Bason Bridge Inn, 3rd St John’s Church, Highly commended: CRS Building Supplies. The allotments winners were: 1st Phillip Bawden, 2nd Judy Sharp, 3rd Mr Bennett. Burnham-On-Sea.com

The winners of the children’s art competitions were named as Phoebe Aston, Tegan Edwards, Taylor Tasker, Constance Patterson, Thomas Ballard, Shianne Crain, Holly Phillips, Keiran Musgrave, Alisha Weaver, Ruby Chapman, Emma Rickard, Courtney Fowler, Ruby Porter, Loren Tillam, Kru Diego Parkinson, Jack L, Chloe B, Milliann West, Henry Williams, Haiden Mills, Ruby Manlow, Katie Jane Brice, Toby Ward, Lily Clements, Laura Beckinsale, Holly Webb, Bethany Farrow.

Special awards were presented to the children who presented a new badge bed design, won by Ewan Lyes, with second place Aleisha Summers, third Tali Knight and highly commended Edward Aylward (above).Burnham-On-Sea.com

Pam Lyes told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a superb evening that was enjoyed by everyone who attended.
