Residents object over Highbridge Asda store’s 24 hour opening bid

-

Highbridge’s Asda supermarket is seeking permission to open around the clock on weekdays, concerning nearby residents.

The store in Caxton Road has submitted an application to Sedgemoor District Council to vary the terms of its planning permission to enable it to extend its opening hours.

The store wants to open 24 hours a day from Monday through to Saturday and retain its current Sunday opening hours of 10am until 4pm.

Sedgemoor District Council has begun receiving feedback from local residents before the consultation deadline of November 8th.

Nearby resident Racheal Loud is among several residents who have lodged objections. “We do not want Asda to have extended opening hours. All the houses close by have young families and the noise from Asda’s shop and staff already wakes us up. This is just unfair.”

Another resident, Mrs Barr, adds: “I am opposing the planning entered by Asda for extending their opening times. I have complained to them before regarding the noise as my house backs directly onto their car park and was told there is nothing they can do. If they are allowed to open for those hours, it would just bring more trouble to Highbridge.”
