Burnham-On-Sea biker issued with summons after video posted online

-

A 37 year-old motoryclist from Burnham-On-Sea has been issued with a summons for dangerous driving after publishing video footage of himself apparently driving at speeds of up to 100mph on the Web.

The video footage came to light earlier this week when a contributor to Burnham-On-Sea.com’s discussion forum came across the video on YouTube, as we reported yesterday. The footage – which appeared to show him speeding at up to 100mph on roads on the outskirts of the town – was removed by the user on Wednesday.

On Thursday (February 15th), police spokesman Dan Mountain thanked Burnham-On-Sea.com’s forum members for bringing it to their attention, and added: “A 37-year-old from Bathurst Close attended Burnham-On-Sea police station on Wednesday evening and has been summonsed for dangerous driving. We hope that this will act as a deterrent.”

It appeared to show the motorcyclist leaving a house in Burnham and then travelling along Love Lane to the Edithmead roundabout at the M5 before returning along the same route. While the video itself was blurry, it appeared that a video camera had been mounted on the motorcyclist himself.

Sergeant Roger Tolley had earlier told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I cannot and do not condone dangerous and reckless driving in any way and am disappointed that the Internet service [YouTube] has publicised what is apparently an inappropriate use of a motor bike on our local roads.”

“Generally, drivers in Burnham are responsible with obvious exceptions. All Burnham Officers as well as the Road Policing Units are committed to maintaining this area as being one of relative safety for all road users.”
