Burnham-On-Sea fundraiser held to celebrate ‘transplant re-birthdays’

-

Two Burnham-On-Sea women held a unique fundraising event to celebrate their ‘re-birthdays’ on Saturday (October 19th) following bone marrow transplants.

Joanna Burridge-Clayton and Suzie Harris, pictured right with Mayor Martin Cox, held the event at The Princess Theatre to raise funds and awareness for those cancer charities and support groups that have helped them in recent months.

Suzie is just over a year from her transplant for Lymphoma and Joanna is just over two years from hers with Leukaemia.

“We wanted to celebrate still being here and share that with our family, friends and others who have been with us on our journeys,” Jo told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We really appreciate how everyone pulled together to make this successful event happen – it’s great that many different groups in the community supported us.”

The event raised money for Anthony Nolan, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research and the Adult BMT Unit at Bristol Children’s Hospital where the ladies were both treated.

Saturday’s free afternoon event saw several choirs and local singers perform alongside children’s entertainment.

And in the evening, two popular local bands, Six Machine and The Ginger Hitlas, performed in front of a capacity audience.
