Burnham-On-Sea children invited to turn spuds into celebrities!

-

Green-fingered youngsters from the Burnham-On-Sea area will be able to show off their imaginative skills by creating a model with one of the county’s best-loved vegetables.

Sanders Garden World in Brent Knoll is challenging children to create celebrities from potatoes during its annual Potato Weekend on Saturday April 2nd and Sunday April 3rd.

General Manager Peter Burks told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is a fun idea and we hope as many youngsters as possible enter. We will have the models on display in the garden centre and will ask customers to vote for their favourites via a ballot box.”

“Although we don’t have any hard and fast rules we are looking for models of famous people, such as politicians and pop stars.”

Children aged from 4-11 can enter the competition and entry forms are available at the centre.

There will be one winner and one runner-up in each age category: four to seven-years-old and eight to 11-years-old.

Each winner and runner-up will receive a certificate, a Thompson & Morgan bag of seed potatoes, a Burgon & Ball triple pack round potato planter and a New Horizon organic and peat-free vegetable compost.

The closing date for entries will be 12 noon on Sunday, April 3rd. Models will then be displayed anonymously until Friday, April 8th and customers will be asked to vote for their favourites using a ballot box.
