A swan had to be rescued after it became trapped in fishing line at a Burnham-On-Sea lake this week.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue Centre and BARB Search & Rescue were called to Lakeside Holiday Park on Wednesday afternoon (June 1st) after a walker spotted the bird.

BARB’s inshore rescue boat crew took wildlife expert Graeme Thompson out onto the water to safely retrieve the bird.

“The swan was in a distressed state with a hook trapped in its beak and line wrapped around its beak and neck,” Graeme told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Thanks to the help of the BARB crew, we managed to reach the bird and take it back to Secret World for further treatment.”

It’s the second swan this year to be rescued at Lakeside after getting entangled in fishing line. BARB says it is always keen to help to avoid members of the public putting their lives in danger to try and save animals.
