Burnham-On-Sea guesthouse owner counts the cost of crime

-

A guesthouse owner in Burnham-On-Sea is counting the cost of crime this week after suffering a double dose of vandalism and a break-in.

Mean vandals pulled up flowers and plants from the award-winning garden of Ashbourne House in Berrow Road on Saturday night before throwing them over pavements.

Owner Colin Jennings, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s just senseless. Why someone would want to pull up our plants and throw them over the street escapes me.”

It comes just days after the guesthouse was also struck by burglars, who made off with a full cash box.

He added: “It has been a difficult week for us. Someone stole our cash box containing several hundred pounds of cash and cheques last week. The police have said they hope to get it back, but we’re not too hopeful.”

New security measures have been introduced in recent days and police have also stepped up patrols in the area.

It follows a spate of vandalism in Burnham over the past week, as reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com here.

Ashbourne House won an award for having the town’s top guesthouse garden during last year’s Burnham In Bloom Awards. It also appeared in Channel Four’s TV show ‘The Hotel Inspector’ five years ago.
