Mild winter boosts Burnham-On-Sea Horticultural Society Spring Show

-

Mild winter temperatures helped boost the number of gardening entries at this year’s Burnham-On-Sea Horticultural Society’s Spring show, which was held in the town on Saturday (March 10th).

Mrs J Armin received the trophy for the Best Exhibit in the show and the Floral Art CupShow Secretary David Bryant, pictured above, told Burnham-On-Sea.com the good weather had helped increase entries to 245, from 200 last year.

“The weather has been kind to us and no-one has been short of any blooms this year,” he said. “In fact, some of the daffodils have already gone over.”

“The overall standard has been good. Some of the floral art categories really stood out – and the Chrysanthemums were a particularly strong category, again helped by the mild winter.”

Scores of visitors came to St Andrew’s School on Saturday to see the entries, which covered gardening, cookery, floral art and photography.

Trophies were awarded to Mrs J Armin (pictured above) for the Best Exhibit in the show and the Floral Art Cup.

Other winners, pictured right, were A Purnell (Miles Cup), I Clark (David Gass Cup), A Purnell (Havage Cup), Mrs C Newman (Photography Cup), Mrs H Bryant (Joan Gass Cup), S Puddy (1993 Cup), Rebecca Puddy (Junior Growers Cup), Rebecca Puddy (Children’s Cup), Joan White (Huntley Cup) and J Clarke (Society Cup).
