Work to demolish Highbridge’s former Beechfield School will begin next week as planned following the completion of an investigation into the possible discovery of a colony of bats in the building.
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this week that wildlife experts had been called in by Somerset County Council to investigate whether bats were nesting in the roof of the former school, which could have delayed the demolition work.
However, County Council spokeswoman Elizabeth Kulh confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday that ecologists had concluded their survey and found no bats living in the building. It means the demolition work scheduled to begin on Monday March 28th will now proceed as planned.
The school closed last year, as Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here, when Beechfield and St John’s merged to form Churchfield School.
