The organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s annual seafront fireworks display have given the final go-ahead to tonight’s event (Sunday, November 3rd).
This year’s fireworks will begin earlier than usual at 6.30pm on The Esplanade, timed around the high tide, with a dazzling display from a specially-built platform on the town’s jetty (pictured), performed to a line-up of classical and modern music.
With forecasters predicting heavy rain, several meetings of the organisers were held this afternoon and the final go-ahead was given by the Town Council at 4.15pm.
“The wind has dropped significantly and the fireworks company are happy to go ahead even it rains,” the town council’s Clerk, Denise Emery, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Motorists driving to the event are being advised to leave plenty of extra time due to road closures in force, as reported here.
The fireworks will be fired from the town’s jetty, surrounded by sea water.
The event will be free of charge thanks to the sponsorship of local firms, however spectators are being encouraged to give donations to the charity collection being run by Burnham’s Rotary Club.
The public viewing area will be from the Esplanade, with the beach forming part of the exclusion zone. However, this may have to be extended, as in previous years, depending on weather factors and wind direction.
This year’s event is being funded by Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council with support from local businesses including Highbridge Caravans, Unity Farm, Positive Wealth Creation, Retreat Caravan Park, Newcombe Caravan Park and Skyburst Illuminations.
Large crowds are expected to line The Esplanade to watch the display, which is organised by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council in the run-up to tomorrow’s Burnham-On-Sea Carnival.
