A barrier installed on Burnham-On-Sea’s jetty to keep walkers away from storm-damaged areas has this week been moved to allow the RNLI to launch its lifeboats from further down the slipway.
Amid concerns that the RNLI may have problems in launching from the jetty during spring tides, Sedgemoor District Council this week moved the barrier further down the jetty.
Council spokesman Bill Smith told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The barrier has been moved to accommodate the RNLI, which told us that at certain tides and times, the barrier may have prevented them from launching.”
“We would not want to impair their ability to launch at any time so to help we’ve moved the barrer 30 feet towards the west.”
RNLI spokesman Mike Lang said: “We’re delighted that Sedgemoor has co-operated. It’s another example of the council understanding the needs of the community.”
