Surplus silt moved from Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club pontoons

-

Tonnes of surplus silt that had been causing problems for Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Club has this week been shifted by several bulldozers.

The extra sand and mud had been swept in by a series of stormy high tides – increasing the height of the beach.

This caused the walkways that lead onto the pontoons to be forced upwards by the pressure of the additional material – thereby damaging them.

Since there was a risk of the walkways splitting apart, emergency action was required, says the club.

“We’ve moved some of the extra silt a few yards along the estuary to help ease the problems,” a club spokesman explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
