Burnham-On-Sea RNLI lifeboat station is to hold a special recruitment day on Saturday 9th July when volunteers can hear more about getting involved.
The event will be held between 10am and 3pm and will provide more information about joining the lifeboat crew, shore crew, tractor driving, fundraising, event support, helping in the lifeboat shop or making donations – and not all roles involve getting wet.
During the day, there will be representatives of various RNLI activities on hand to talk with and discuss the roles plus basic refreshments will be available.
The lifeboat station is located on the junction of Pier Street, Abingdon Street and Marine Drive.
Lifeboat Operations Manager Matt Davies said: “I know the first step through the gates can sometimes be difficult, but we are a friendly bunch of volunteers, and we will welcome all enquiries, so come in and see us. If you cannot attend on 9th July, pop into the station during one of our regular Wednesday evening training sessions or get in touch on Facebook.”
Lifeboats spokesman Mike Lang added: “However you wish to support us, there will be a way to make this possible. For example, many of our lifeboat crew members start completely from scratch, and training is willingly given. Being involved with a close team of volunteers can provide much satisfaction, and a sense of achievement.”
