A well-known BBC TV sports presenter has helped to raise thousands of pounds for a village hall near Burnham-On-Sea.

John Inverdale was the VIP guest at the fundraising quiz night in Mark which raised £2,000 towards the refurbishment of Mark Village Hall.

Dozens of supporters attended the successful event, which included an auction. Villager Peter Nourse, pictured with John, made a winning bid for three sports books.

“It was a very successful evening, with much laughter and banter and we are delighted that around £2,000 was raised towards the refurbishment of our village hall’s bar,” said co-organiser Jendy Weekes.

During his visit to the area, John Inverdale also visited Hugh Sexeys School in nearby Blackford where he gave a popular question and answer session with the pupils who play rugby.
