The number of large cargo ships passing Burnham-On-Sea on their way to Dunball Wharf could be set to jump after this week’s signing of a major new deal.
Burnham-On-Sea.com learns Riverbulk Shipping Limited has secured an exclusive option to use Dunball Wharf for the next 20 years.
The company imports fertilisers and other farming materials using large cargo vessels of up to 2,200 tons.
The annoucement may lead to a number of new jobs being created at Dunball Wharf, which will come as welcome news following last year’s setback when long-running firm AG Watts went its receivership. Operations under the new deal are expected to start as soon as May or June 2007.
The deal does not affect Hanson Aggregates’ contract, meaning the Arco Dee cargo ship (pictured) and Arco Dart will continue to be seen passing Burnham.
