One of the longest-running community events in Burnham-On-Sea’s social calendar has been saved from the axe.
The annual Burnham Hospital fete, which has been held for over 50 years on the August Bank Holiday Monday in the town’s Manor Gardens, was cancelled by the Friends of Burnham Hospital earlier this year due to resource numbers.
But a different group has now come forward to save it and enable it to go ahead as normal this summer.
Community group BEST (Burnham Events Social Team) has announced that they will be taking it over.
Kathy Jones, Chair, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have been in talks with The Friends of Burnham Hospital who feel that after many years of running the fete, they are now unable to carry on.”
“BEST, therefore, will take over from this year. We will do our upmost to keep the same format and have already been contacted by many of the stallholders. The Friends of Burnham Hospital will be having a stall and still holding their raffle.”
She added: “It will be a challenge but one that BEST are very excited to be taking on. We have also put a plea out to other groups and I am delighted that BOS Events, The Lions, Facebook Socialites and 1st Burnham Scouts have all offered their help.”
If anyone would like a stall, or to showcase themselves at the event, email musicmad2004@yahoo.co.uk or pop into The Toycupboard, Pier St, Burnham. The event will be held on August Bank Holiday Monday from 11am – 4pm.
