List of Burnham town and district council election candidates announced

The names of local residents who have put themselves forward to be considered as Burnham-On-Sea councillors at May’s district and town council elections were announced on Wednesday (April 4th).


The Burnham North district council area, with three seats up for grabs, will be contested by Peter Clayton (Conservative), Derek Cooper (Labour), Dennis Davey (Conservative), Neville Jones (Conservative), Adrian Petoud (Lib Dem), Allan Townsend (Lib Dem), and Rod Winfield (Lib Dem).

The Burnham South district council area, which also has three seats, is being contested by Eric Gill (Conservative), Nicky Livings (Lib Dem), Mike Mansfield (Lib Dem), John Morgan (Conservative), Hilary Rose (Lib Dem), and Arthur Thorogood (Conservative).

The Highbridge district council area will be contested by Joyce Curtis (Labour), Linda Davis (Labour), Sheila Forrester (Labour), Janet Keen (Conservative), Roger Keen (Conservative), John Laband (Lib Dem), Joe Leach (Lib Dem), Patrick Simpson (Conservative), and Danny Titcombe (Lib Dem). Three seats are available.

In the Knoll district council ward, where there is one seat available, Bob Filmer (Conservative) and Nina O’Reilly (Lib Dem) will contest the seat.

District councillors in Burnham who are not standing for re-election are Cllr Louise Parkin (Conservative) and Cllr Jean Whitehouse (Labour).

Town council candidates

In the town council elections in Burnham and Highbridge, there are five seats for the Highbridge ward which are being contested by Pat Burge (Lib Dem), Derick Cooper (Labour), Linda Davis (Labour), Janet Keen (Conservative), David Poole (Labour), Patricia Sanders (Labour), Danny Titcombe (Lib Dem), Jean Whitehouse (Ind) and Chris Williams (Lib Dem).

In the Burnham Central and South town council ward, where there are three seats, the seats will be contested by Michael Clarke (Conservative), John Morgan (Conservative), Linda Nation (Lib Dem), Hilary Rose (Lib Dem) and Arthur Thorogood (Conservative).

The Burnham Marine town council ward, where there is one seat available, will see Joe Leach (Lib Dem) and Roger Keen (Conservative) competing.

The Burnham north town council ward, where there are six seats available, will be contested by Peter Clayton (Conservative), Dennis Davey (Conservative), Eric Gill (Conservative), Neville Jones (Conservative), Adrian Petoud (Lib Dem), Pauline Pollard (Conservative), Ken Smout (Conservative), and Allan Townsend (Lib Dem).

The Burnham west town council ward, where there is one seat available, will be contested by Joyce Beard (Ind), Pheobe Harling (Conservative), and Nicky Livings (Lib Dem).

The Burnham east town council ward, where there are two seats available, will be competed by Martin Lloyd (Conservative), Mike Mansfield (Lib Dem), and John Woodman (Conservative).

Polling day takes place on May 3rd, when registered voters will get a chance to cast their votes at polling stations across the town – including Burnham’s Methodist Church (pictured above).
