Pavements in Highbridge were damaged when a huge convoy of lorries carrying grain silos travelled through the town on Wednesday evening (April 4th) and the night before.
The huge lorries – pictured here – brought traffic to a standstill as they made their way along Church Street in a southerly direction through Highbridge.
Eyewitnesses told Burnham-On-Sea.com the huge lorries found it difficult to drive around the roundabout at the top of Church Street – and it is near here where the damage occurred.
One eyewitness, who sent Burnham-On-Sea.com these photos, said: “Pavements were scraped, kerb stones were cracked and manhole covers were damaged when the low loaders went over them. I hope they’re not going to be left in this state.”
Jan Hookings, spokeswoman for Somerset County Council’s Highways Department, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are currently investigating how the pavements got damaged and hope to make repairs in due course.”
