An illustrated talk exploring the maritime history of the Bristol Channel will be given in Highbridge this evening (Wednesday, April 13th).
North Sedgemoor Local History Group is holding the talk and slide show at the Lecture Theatre in King Alfred School.
“Visitors will be taken back to a period of vibrant activity up and down the channel, recalling the skills and endeavours of those who sailed these difficult waters,” the group’s Chairman, John Strickland, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“It was in the 1980s that the last trading vessels used the small ports and harbours of the Severn and Bristol Channel. All are now either abandoned or yachting marinas.”
The event starts at 7pm and visitors are welcome to attend for just £1 each.
The group is always looking for new material for its meetings and if any readers have historical photographs or images they would be willing to share, bring them to the meeting or contact Mr Strickland.
