New Burnham-On-Sea tourist information centre opens today

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s new tourist information centre opens today (Thursday, April 14th) under the ownership of a brand new community group.

Glastonbury Festival boss Michael Eavis will perform the official opening of the new-look centre at 12 noon.

The ceremony comes after Sedgemoor District Council this week formally handed over the lease to the building to the newly-formed community group BIARS (Burnham Information And Rescue Support), which now runs the centre.

A wide range of new tourist information, travel advice, leaflets, and details on local attractions has been brought into the building over the past week.

And new stock includes artwork from Burnham artist Judith Champion, fudge from Burnham fudge maker Jonathan Walter, Bristol Blue glass, drinks from Rich’s Cider Farm, and merchandise from Burnham-On-Sea.com – all of which will be sold to keep the centre running.

Supporters of Burnham hovercraft rescue charity BARB and The Coastguard Association will also be handing out sea safety information and selling charity merchandise of their own at the centre.

BIARS has this week issued a fresh appeal for more volunteers to come forward to help run the centre, which aims to be open daily from 10am-4pm. To find out more, call 01278 787852 or visit the BIARS web page here.
